第二部分 阅读理解 (共两节, 满分40)

第一节(共15小题,每小题2分,共30分)

阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中, 选出最佳选项。

A

Families can be made up of all kinds of different people(or in this case, fish). That’s the big idea behind the recently-released movie, Finding Dory.

Finding Dory is the sequel(续集)to the very popular movie Finding Nemo, which came out 14 years ago. Both are cartoon movies.

In Finding Dory, a forgetful blue fish named Dory becomes lost, and must be reunited with special people in her life. Likeable Dory has short-term memory loss, which means that she can remember things that happened a long time ago, but can’t remember things that just happened. It’s a condition that causes trouble when she becomes lost, because she has trouble remembering directions like “turn left and then right.” Thanks to her good friends like the fish named Nemo, and his father, Marlin, she finally finds her way back.

Finding Dory is a beautifully drawn film that is attractive to look at. And, although the title gives away some of the plot(情节), there are enough turns throughout the movie to make it interesting.

Much of the film takes place out of water---in a marine wildlife centre and even on a highway—so the filmmakers had to be very creative about finding ways for the fish to move from place to place. At one point, Dory is in a coffee pot full of water, carried by a very clever octopus(章鱼).

Finding Dory has been very popular with audiences since it opened on June 8,2016. In fact, it has already made $136.2 million in ticket sales.

The characters in the film were “voiced” by popular actors including Ellen DeGeneres(a talk-show host) as Dory and Ty Burrell as a Beluga whale.

Ellen DeGeneres has waited a “long, long, long, long, long, long time” for the next film in the Nemo series. She said in a media release from the film’s creators, Disney Pixar, “It’s got a lot of heart, and it’s really funny.”

21. What is the purpose of the passage?

  A. To tell the readers about Dory

  B. To introduce a film to the readers

  C. To describe the plot of Finding Dory

  D. To make a comparison between Finding Nemo and Finding Dory

22. Which statement is TRUE about Dory according to the passage?

  A. Dory becomes lost because of her memory loss

  B. Dory’s father, Marlin, helps her find her way back

  C. Dory like to move from place to place

  D. Dory’s home is a coffee pot full of water

23. Finding Dory is popular with audiences mainly because ____________.

  A. it’s about a forgetful blue fish

  B. it’s the sequel to the movie Finding Nemo

  C. it’s a beautifully drawn film with many turns in it

  D. the characters in the film were “voiced” by popular actors

B

Recently I and other Red Cross volunteers met a group of victims from Hurricane Katrina. We were there,as mental health professionals, to offer “psychological first aid” and I was struck by the simple healing power of presence. As we walked through the gate to the shelter, we were greeted with a burst of gratitude from the first person we met. I felt appreciated, but also guilty, because I hadn’t really done anything yet.

I first realized the power of presence many years ago when a friend’s mother passed away unexpectedly.I had received a call saying she had just passed away.I wanted to rush down there immediately, but didn’t want to intrude (打扰) on this very personal period of sadness.I was torn about what to do.Another friend with me then said,“Just go.Just be there.”I did,and I will never regret it.

Since then,I have not hesitated to be in the presence of others.Once I sat at the bedside of a young man suffering from the pain of his AIDS-related dying. He was not awake, and obviously unaware of others’ presence. However, the atmosphere was by no means solemn. His family, playing guitars and singing, allowed him to be present with them as though he were still fully alive.

In my life,I am repeatedly struck by the healing power of presence. In it,none of us are truly alone. It is not only something we give to others but also changes me for the better.

A.He hesitated over whether to go.                  B.He went to his friends’ at once.

26.What does the underlined word “solemn” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?

A.Heavy but warm.                      B.A little sad but cosy.

C.Relaxing and delightful.                        D.Very serious and unhappy.

27.What has the author learned from his experience?

A.A friend in need is a friend indeed.

B.Being present can make a big difference.

C.The family harmony is the happiest thing in life.

D.Being a volunteer can make one’s life more significant.

Is it possible to persuade mankind to live without war? War is an ancient institution which has existed for at least six thousand years. It was always bad and usually foolish, but in the past the human race managed to live with it. Modern creativity has changed this. Either man will abolish war, or war will abolish man. For the present, it is nuclear weapons that cause the most serious danger, but bacteriological (使用细菌的)or chemical weapons, may soon offer an even greater threat. If we succeed in abolishing nuclear weapons, our work will not be done. It will never be done until we have succeeded in abolishing war. To do this, we need to persuade mankind to look upon international problems in a new way, not by competitions of force, in which the victory goes to the side which is the most skillful in killing people, but by arbitration (仲裁) according to agreed principles of law. It is not easy to change very old mental habits, but this is what must be tried.

There are those who say that the adoption(采纳)of this or that ideology (意识形态) would prevent war. I believe this to be a big error. All ideologies are based on statements which are, at best, doubtful, and at worst, totally false. Their followers believe in them so that they are willing to go to war in support of them.

The movement of world opinion during the past few years has changed so much that we can welcome it. It is believed that nuclear war must be avoided. Of course very difficult problems remain in the world, but the attitude towards them is a better one than it was several years ago. It has begun to be thought, even by the powerful men who decide whether we shall live or die, that people should reach agreements even if both sides do not find these agreements wholly satisfactory. It has begun to be understood that the important conflict nowadays is not between different countries, but between man and the atom bomb.

28. It is implied in the first paragraph that war now is           .

A. as bad as in the past                  B. as necessary as in the past

C. worse than in the past                D. not so dangerous as in the past

29. The underlined word "this" in Paragraph l probably refers to "        "

A. improving weapons                  B. abolishing war

C. solving international problems          D. living a peaceful life

30. From Paragraph 2, we learn that the author____.

A. is a supporter of some modern ideologies

B. has no doubt about the truth of any ideology

C. believes the adoption of some ideologies could prevent war

D. does not think the adoption of any ideology could stop war

31. Which of the following words can best describe the author’s feeling in writing this passage?

A.Disappointed.         B.Doubtful.       C.Worried.              D.Hopeful

D

In today’s America, if you spend much time with educators and policy makers, you’ll hear a lot of the following words: “standards”, “results”, “skills”, “self-control”, and so on. A look at what goes on in most classrooms these days makes it clear that when people think about education, they are not thinking about what it feels like to be a child, or what makes childhood an important stage of life in their own right.

The thing that sets children apart from adults is not their ignorance, nor their lack of skills. It’s their ability for joy. Becoming educated should not require giving up joy but rather lead to finding joy in new kinds of things: reading novels instead of playing with small figures, conducting experiments instead of sinking cups in the bathtub, for example. In some cases, schools should help children find new, more grown-up ways of doing the same things that keep them joyful: making art, making friends, making decisions, etc.

However, many of the assignments and rules schools come up with treat pleasure and joy as the enemies of competence (能力) and responsibility. Children should learn to delay pleasure and joy so that they can achieve abstract goals, like going to college. Not only is this a boring and awful way to treat children, but it also makes no sense educationally. They can be forced to stay in their seats or fill out worksheets, but they can’t be forced to think carefully, enjoy books, or digest complex information.

Building on a child’s ability to feel joy, rather than pushing it aside, would require a change in the education world’s mindset (思维模式). Instead of trying to get children to work hard, why not focus on getting them to take pleasure in meaningful, productive activities. Like working with others, exploring ideas, and solving problems? These focuses are not different from the things in which they take delight.

Joy should not be trained out of school or left for after- school programs. It doesn’t run counter to the goals of public education. It is, in fact, the primary condition.

32. Many of the assignments and rules of schools are considered_______.

  A. too complex for children to understand     B. reasonable to achieve educational goals

C.to focus on children’s joy                 D. to set studying against pleasure

33. Which of the following is true according to the passage?

  A. Educators are thinking about school education in a proper way.

  B. The ability to feel joy often differs from the competence to study.

  C. Having children work hard requires changing educators’ mindset.

  D. Education should help children find joy in more grown- up ways.

34. The underlined expression “run counter to” in the last paragraph probably means_______.

  A. keep back      B.argue for        C. make for      D. go against

35. The author of the passage intends to______.

  A. discuss where education leads             B.suggest joy is what schools lack

  C. question children’s ability to feel joy         D. prove activity creates responsibility

第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。其中有两项为多余选项。

注意:选项EAB填涂, FAC填涂,GAD填涂

Many people believe that classical music is not relevant to young people today. However, this issue frequently causes heated debate.
36  .For example, if you look at the audience at a classical concert, the majority is over the age of fifty. Others say it is more popular than we first imagine.   37  .It is often used in films and advertisements. For example, a famous piece of classical music was used as the theme music for the 1990 World Cup . Not many people could have given its name, but millions enjoyed it .
38  for example, it is said that rap(说唱) music was invented by a classical musician in 1912, but it is now used by young people in pop music.
However, young people point to the fact that classical music has been outstripped(超越) by technology. To play a classical instrument, such as a violin, you need to study hard and practice for hours.   39  A teenager can write and make music using a computer program in the comfort of their own bedroom.
A final point to bear in mind is that the term "classical music" is used to refer to different kinds of music, from jazz to pieces for large orchestras(
管弦乐队).  40

So, it may be only a minority of young people who play classical instruments, but when it comes to enjoying classical music, it depends on the piece of music. It may be more relevant to young people in the modern world than they realize!

A. In fact, many young people enjoy classical music.

B. Most of young people are tired of the classical music.

C. Nowadays, you don't need to get aching arms from practicing.

D. Many young people listen to classical music without realizing it.

E. Some people say that classical music is connected only with old people.

F. Also, some people point out that young people produce new music based on classical ideas.

G. This makes it even more difficult to say whether classical music is relevant to young people.

Nowadays more and more Chinese go to work with bicycle, leaving their cars at home. Why are so many people riding bicycles to work? They have different reason for it.

First, bicycles do not use up any fuel. Therefore, they cost less than other means of transport. Besides, bicycles do not need many space on the road, and it is easily to find a place for it. And everybody knows that riding a bicycle is healthy sport.

When people drive their cars to work or shop, they lost the chance to exercise, but the waste gas from the cars will pollute the air. And moreover, people feel annoying when looking for a parking lot in the busy city center. So I prefer riding a bicycle to drive a car.

We are looking forward to a cleaner and better environment by changing our lifestyle.

I will have a day off on August 7. If it’s convenient for you, let’s meet then. By the way, is there any special custom that I have to pay attention to? I need your advice.

    Keep in touch.

Yours,

  Li Hua

W: Do you want to read the latest news?

M: No. I've lost all interest in the football team. (1)

Text 2

M: Sarah, I'm afraid we are going to have to keep you overnight.

W: Why? Something wrong?

M: Your heart rate keeps changing, and we need to run some tests to find the problem. (2)

W: Okay, I need to call my husband.

Text 3

W: We brought several games to the park with us. Do you want to play baseball?

M: I hurt my arm last week. Do you have anything else?

W: There is chess and a soccer ball.

M: I'd like to do something active, and with my feet only! (3)

Text 4

W: Do you have any specials today?

M: We have a sale on shirts. (4) If you buy one, you get one free.

W: How about pants?

M: They're not on sale, but they start as low as ten dollars.

Text 5

M: Have you been to the river yet this year? I’ve never seen it so low.

W: Yes, we went last week. The water was very shallow.

M: I hope that it rains soon. It’s much more fun when the river is higher.

Text 6

M: Easter is my favorite holiday! (6) Do you want to help me paint some eggs?

W: OK, Dad. I want to paint one pink and one green.

M: I painted twelve eggs, but we have eleven more left, (7) and you can paint them all.Once you finish, we can hide them in the yard for your cousins to find.

W: Will there be an Easter basket?

M: You'll have to look for it.

W: This is even more fun than my birthday and Christmas. I wish it were April every month!

Text 7

W: I'd like to get a hotel room for the night.

M: For how many people?

W: Just one. I am in town for a teaching conference.

M: Can I interest you in our top-floor suite? It has an extra living room. We are offering it for 25% off the original price, only $499. (8) (9)

W: That sounds like too much space for just me. How much is a regular room?

M: The suite has a view of the whole town, all the way to the ocean. You can take a look before deciding.

W: I would like a regular room, please. (10)

M: Fine. I'll set you up with a regular room for the weekend. That will be $200. (10) Let me know if you would like to switch to the suite, though. Enjoy your stay!

W: Good morning, Sales Department. (13) May I help you?

M: Could I speak to Mr. Michaels, please?

W: I’ll see if he is available. Who should I say is calling, please?

M: John Smith.

W: Hold on, please... Mr. Michaels is in a meeting with the managing director at the moment, (11) I’m afraid. Can I help you with something?

M: Well, I want to discuss the new contract we signed last week. (12)

W: I don't think the meeting will go on much longer. Shall I ask him to call you when he is free?

M: Yes, that would be great.

W: Could I have your name again, please?

M: Yes. It’s John Smith.

W: And the number?

M: 021-6435-8769.

W: OK. You’ll be hearing from Mr. Michaels later in the morning, Mr. Smith. (13)

M: Thank you for your help. Goodbye.

W: You are welcome. Goodbye.

M: Hi, I’m Jeff. I just transferred from the tax department.

W: I'm May. Nice to meet you. Welcome to the shipping department. (14) I’ve never seen you before. This company is so big!

M: Yeah, I worked on the other side of the company for three years, and never visited this side.I saw that you have a sports field. I’m excited to use it.

W: It makes coming to work a little easier. I like to play soccer the most. We have games at lunch on Mondays and Wednesdays. (15) And we play basketball on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

M: What about Fridays?

W: Friday is a free day. I used to work in the tax department, actually. And in sales. But this  department is my favorite.

M: What’s the best thing about it?

W: The people are all great to work with, and we get six weeks of vacation every year. (16)

M: Six weeks? We only got four weeks in the tax department.

W: Yet another reason why I love working here so much! I went to Canada for two weeks last year. Where are you going to take your vacation?

M: I’ve always wanted to go to the mountains of Peru. (17) I went to Central America last year.

Nike is proud to announce the brand new Nike Fit. The Nike Fit looks like a watch, but it has many things not found in normal watches. Its purpose is to record a person’s health signs while they are wearing it. It monitors heart rates and blood pressure. (18) It can calculate how much energy is used and how many kilometers are traveled. It automatically connects to the Internet, and there is a website where you can enter your information. It will help track your results and find out the best exercise for you to do.

The first version will come out in one month, (19) and we are already planning for Fit 2.0 to be released next year. That version will be waterproof(防水的) for up to 10 meters, since the current version is not. Of course, all of the versions tell time and have a stopwatch. You can think of the Nike Fit as the ultimate workout watch. It does all of the normal things a watch can do, but it also helps improve the health of the person who wears it. (20)
